Despite the challenges of range anxiety and charging infrastructure, innovations have boosted EV adoption in India. Wireless charging is one of them, which Delhi-based startup Dash Dynamic plans to commercialise in 2027. Founder Robin Singh narrates their story to EFY’s Nitisha Dubey.

Q. Can you tell us about Dash Dynamic and your products?

A. Dash Dynamic is a deep-tech company operating in the electromobility space, specifically focusing on solving challenges related to electric vehicle (EV) charging. We specialise in wireless charging technology—a two-part system where one unit is installed inside the vehicle and the other is embedded into the ground. An EV owner can park over the charger and initiate charging through a mobile app without needing to leave the car. We started the company in 2020, driven by a vision to build a cleaner, more efficient, and decentralised EV charging infrastructure—an alternative to the clutter of plug-in stations on every wall and street corner. We have developed wireless charging systems for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and drones (unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs). These are our three key product lines. The goal is to enhance user convenience and reduce the infrastructure burden of plug-in chargers.

Q. What work are you doing for drones?

A. We have developed a 700-watt wireless charging system for drones, designed to enhance range. This solution is targeted at UAV manufacturers. We are taking a business-to-business (B2B) route, integrating the charging system directly into drones through original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships. We focus on enabling manufacturers to adopt the technology and offer it to end-users as part of their product lineup.

Q. Who is your target audience?

A. Our primary customers are EV manufacturers and charge point operators (CPOs). By targeting both, we ensure that as more wireless-enabled EVs hit the road, there is also an infrastructure to support them. We cater to all types of EV and UAV manufacturers—two-wheeler, four-wheeler, and drone OEMs—as well as both public and private charge point operators.

Q. Do you hold any patents?

A. Yes, we have filed a patent for our wireless charging technology and expect it to be granted this year. Additionally, we are filing 30 more patents to protect the various innovations we have developed.

Q. What differentiates your technology from others in the market?

A. It is the wireless charging system, that presents a range of advantages over conventional plug-in chargers. By eliminating the need for heavy civil infrastructure such as plinths or canopies, installation becomes significantly more cost-effective, as the system can be seamlessly embedded into the ground. With no moving parts, it offers a much longer operational lifespan—up to six times that of traditional systems—due to reduced wear and tear. Safety is also greatly enhanced, as the contactless design minimises the risk of electrocution, even in cases of faulty installations. The system’s decentralised nature allows it to be easily deployed in a variety of locations, including residential complexes, shopping malls, highways, hospitals, and hotels. Technologically, it leverages magnetic resonance rather than traditional induction, allowing for higher efficiency, greater tolerance to misalignment, and improved power transfer capabilities—all without the risk of overheating.

Q. What is required to operate your wireless charger?

A. Operation is extremely simple—just park and charge. The system automatically detects the vehicle and initiates charging. Alternatively, users can control charging via a mobile app, which provides information on battery status, time to full charge, and state of charge (SoC). It also enables remote start/stop and full Internet of Things (IoT) integration.

Q. Are your products available to end customers or only businesses?

A. We operate purely on a B2B model. The vehicle-side charger is supplied to EV manufacturers, who integrate it into the vehicle. The ground assembly charger is provided to charge point operators or through manufacturers to consumers. Much like Apple sells iPhones with wireless charging capabilities but not the wireless charger itself, our tech enables the car, while the user chooses the compatible charger.

Q. How efficient is your wireless charger compared to plug-in systems?

A. Our chargers utilise resonant technology, achieving efficiency levels that are on par with or better than those of plug-in chargers. Losses are minimal, and some variants even surpass the performance of plug-in hybrids.

Q. How does your system handle vehicle misalignment?

A. We allow 25 per cent misalignment in any direction while maintaining full charging efficiency. This ensures ease of use without precise parking.

Q. What safety features are built into the system?

A. Our charger includes foreign object detection. If any object or animal comes between the transmitter and receiver, charging stops immediately, and an alert is sent to the user. This prevents harm and ensures safe operation.

Q. Can the charger operate in extreme weather?

A. Yes, the system has an IP67 rating, meaning it is waterproof, dust-resistant, and suitable for installation even in areas with waterlogged conditions. It is designed for robust outdoor use.

Q. What is the maximum power output, and how does it affect charging speed?

A. Our chargers range from 1.2kW for two-wheelers, 11kW for four-wheelers, and 700W for drones. They bypass the onboard alternating current (AC) charger and deliver direct current (DC) power directly to the battery, allowing faster charging, up to twice the speed, depending on the vehicle’s onboard limits.

Q. Is your system compatible with all EV models?

A. Our system requires vehicle-specific integration and is deployed through OEM partnerships. Only vehicles designed with our receiver will support wireless charging.

Q. What are the installation requirements?

A. The vehicle receiver is installed during the manufacturing process. The ground charging pad can be bolted above ground or embedded under cement, depending on the use case. Installation is simple and scalable. A retrofit model will also be made available for vehicles not originally equipped by the OEMs.

Q. Does your system support smart features like remote monitoring and app control?

A. Yes, the system is fully IoT-enabled and comes with a mobile app offering features like SoC monitoring, charge status, remote control, and smart charging recommendations.

Q. How safe is the electromagnetic field generated by the charger?

A. We comply with the international standard for the safe control of electromagnetic emissions (SCE) standards for electromagnetic safety. The magnetic emissions are extremely low, posing no risk even to users with medical implants like pacemakers.

Q. What is the expected lifespan and maintenance requirement?

A. Our wireless charger has no moving parts, resulting in minimal maintenance and an expected lifespan of 20–30 years. Only basic external care is needed.

Q. What is the pricing model?

A. Vehicle-side charging modules will be included in the cost of the vehicle. Ground chargers will be sold separately, similar to plug-in chargers today. Pricing has not been disclosed yet, as we are still in pilot stages, but we aim to keep the cost at par or slightly above plug-in chargers. Our focus is widespread market adoption.

Q. Will your chargers be available everywhere, or only at select stations?

A. Our vision is to make wireless charging ubiquitous. We plan to partner with existing charge point operators to retrofit their spaces with wireless chargers. Since our chargers sit on or under the ground, they can complement existing plug-in setups. Additionally, we foresee decentralised installations in residential areas, malls, offices, highways, and public spaces.

Q. Are you manufacturing the product yourself?

A. Currently, we are a design and research and development (R&D) company. We outsource the manufacturing of specific modules to Indian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). We do final assembly, testing, and piloting. Full-scale production will commence once we secure commitments from OEMs and CPOs.

Q. Were there any major design challenges?

A. Yes, early challenges involved overcoming the limitations of induction-based wireless charging—like poor alignment tolerance, limited transfer distance, and heating issues. We adopted magnetic resonance technology to solve these. Our system supports a vertical distance of 250 centimetres (100 inches), 25 per cent misalignment, and high-power transfer with minimal heat generation.

Q. What are your revenue streams?

A. We are currently pre-revenue, having raised $1 million in funding for R&D. Commercialisation and revenue generation are expected to begin post-certification and partnerships.

Q. What are your biggest challenges right now?

A. Our biggest challenges right now are twofold. First, regulation remains a key hurdle, as India currently lacks a dedicated framework for wireless EV charging—unlike plug-in systems. To address this, we are actively working with government bodies to help shape the necessary standards. Second, stakeholder adoption is critical. While consumers are enthusiastic, widespread adoption ultimately depends on OEMs and CPOs. We are tackling this challenge through pilot programmes, technology validation, and certification efforts.

Q. Are you looking for vendors or partners?

A. We are currently seeking partners to support two key areas of our operations. First, we require skilled teams for the installation of our chargers, ensuring efficient and reliable deployment. Additionally, we are looking for vendors to manage annual maintenance contracts (AMC), providing comprehensive post-installation support and ongoing servicing.

Q. What are your future plans?

A. Our immediate focus is on static wireless charging (park and charge). Our long-term vision includes dynamic charging, where EVs charge while driving. This would completely eliminate range anxiety. We expect to work on this over the next three to four years.

Q. When do you plan to commercialise the product?

A. After completing our pilots and securing certifications—an eight-month process—we expect to commercially launch in early 2027.
