Hollow Knight: Silksong: Wormways Full Guide and Walkthrough

Hollow Knight: Silksong: Wormways Full Guide and Walkthrough

Quick Links

I can’t be the only one who hated the Deepnest in the original Hollow Knight, right? Well, while the Wormways in Hollow Knight: Silksong may be similar, it’s nowhere near as big and twisty as the former. Thank you, Team Cherry.

However, there are some pretty important things located in the Wormways, so whether you like them or not, you’re going to have to face the narrow tunnels and skittering caves at some point. Of course, if you come prepared, there won’t be any trouble. This area can be attempted pretty early in the game, so it’s well worth your time if you’re an avid explorer.

What’s more, it’s actually pretty hard to die here, seeing as though you have infinite silk from the falling worms that never despawn. So don’t worry about losing those rosaries. And, of course, equipped with this guide at your fingertips, you’ll be as good as gold.

Location and Map Acquisition

The first time you find the Wormways will probably be when you drop from the western Shellwood exit. However, there are in fact 2 main entrances, with one above and one below.

I highly recommend that you enter through the top entrance first. This is because you’ll find the map merchant in the first series of chambers that you encounter. The map is particularly important for this place, given how confusing it can be. Make sure you have 70 Rosaries spare.

On top of that, in a room slightly before Shakra, you’ll also find the Dead Bug’s Purse, which is a great tool if you end up dying and losing your rosaries a lot. This is replaced by the Shell Satchel if you’re attempting a Steel Soul run.

Hollow Knight Silksong Simple Key Door

The only other thing I would recommend you invest in before delving into the worm-invested grotto is a simple key. Near the bottom of the main vertical chamber that runs through the area is a door with a lock, stopping you from exploring the other half of the area. Grab one from the merchant in Bone Bottom for 500 rosaries, or grab a free one from Sinner’s Road.

There is also a breakable wall right at the bottom of the Wormways that leads into the BoneGrave area, where you can obtain the Crest of the Wanderer.

Completing Wishes

Alchemist’s Assistant

Hollow Knight Silksong Zylotol

There are 2 main wishes to be completed in this area, but for someone rushing through, it’s entirely possible you might not even come across these.

Both are found by talking to Professor Zylotol, who is found in his own private chamber right at the top of the Wormways. In Alchemist’s Assistant, he asks you to go and extract 3 phials of Plasmium from the cocoons growing in the Wormways. Check out our guide for the locations.

Upon completion, you’ll get the Plasmium phial, which gives you a little bit of extra health when injected.

Advanced Alchemy

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Alchemy

If you return here in Act 3, you’ll find that the entirety of the Wormways has been infected with Lifeblood, or Plasmium, giving everything a blue tint and completely altering the state of the creatures that live there.

Once more, talk to the Professor, and he will ask you for corrupted blood samples, of which he requires 10. Using the same phial as last time, attack local enemies to obtain their blood. This can require a bit of timing to get right.

If you’re struggling, head to the bottom left of the area to find Professor Zango, a miniboss. He’s really very simple, and you can get a good amount of blood samples simply by attacking him with the Phial.

Upon your return, you’ll obtain an item that gives you unlimited Plasmium, meaning you no longer need to pay for a refill.

Weavenest Karn

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Karn

Once you obtain the Needolin and the Clawlineability, you can head over to the far west of the Wormways and enter Weavenest Karn. You might think you need the Faydown cloak, but you can make the jump in front of the main entrance without it if you have good timing.

This is a super short area with just a couple of jumps and enemies to avoid, but the real rewards lie at the back. Here you are rewarded with the Sharpdart ability, my favourite silk skill in the game.

This allows you to dash through enemies while hitting them multiple times. When you pair it with something like the Volt Filament, you can absolutely melt flying enemies that like to group up, like the ones in the High Halls Gauntlet fight.

If you’re trying to complete the Hunter’s Journal, this is a great place to kill the Groms. Use your Sharpdart to kill them before they reach the ground.

Collectables You May Have Missed

Mask Shard

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Mask

That’s it for the main quests and big ticket upgrades in the Wormways, but there are a few more things you may want to hunt down before you leave.

In the area just below the door where you inserted the simple key, there’s a breakable wall with a mask shard behind. This can be grabbed very early in the game, before you even have the simple key.

Lost Flea

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Flea

Right above the locked trapdoor, also near the simple key door, is a breakable wall on the eastern side. This is located in the large vertical room on the map. Break down the wall and then head through the following chamber to find a lost flea who needs your help!

Memory Locket

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Locket

In the large chamber to the southwest, there’s a Memory Locket at the end of a long series of tunnels.

Beast Shard

Hollow Knight Silksong Wormways Beast

The final thing you may have noticed on the way here is the massive Craggler located in the long eastern corridor past the south entrance. While you may have sprinted past him the first time, it’s worth coming back to take him down for good.

Hide beneath the platforms while he spits at you and then pop out to deliver some rapid jump strikes. Or try using a Cogfly or Wispfire lantern for free damage. Once you deal enough damage, he will explode, and you’ll get a beast shard for your efforts. That means 140 shards for crafting! Not too bad.

Once you’ve cleared this room, a new enemy called the Cragglite will spawn. You’ll need to take out a bunch of these for the Hunter’s Journal later on.
