AI-generated content is all over the internet, and the technology has made it easier than ever to make creative designs for your school project, small-scale business, or any other profession. However, generating a high-quality image using AI tools is challenging, as most free services create cartoonish or clip-art-style photos, which don’t look that good. Here are four ways in which you can generate high-quality and realistic images using AI with just a few clicks.

We tested multiple tools on the internet that claim to generate photos using generative AI. However, many of them either require a paid subscription or come with too many restrictions, such as refusing to draw humans, public places, etc. Despite the challenges, we have hand-picked four working solutions that can generate realistic and natural-looking images:
1. Grok
Grok is a free AI tool that can be used on X (formerly Twitter), developed and maintained under Elon Musk’s xAI. It is among the best AI image generators that we tested, as Grok can create photos of any famous celebrity, as long as it does not include violence or adult-rated content. You can use the tool for free by opening an account on X.
Note: You can also use Grok from the standalone website grok.com, but you will have to register on it separately. We have demonstrated this guide from X.com as it is easier to access via this route, with potentially better limits.
1. Open X.com and navigate to the Grok section. You can also do this on the official X app on Android and iOS.
2. Enter your prompt and describe the image that you want to generate.

3. Grok will generate up to four images based on your request. You can also ask it to modify a certain image using additional prompts in the chat.

4. Once you are satisfied with all the changes, download and save the image on your device.

Images generated by Grok look highly realistic. We asked the tool to create images of Virat Kohli in a yellow jersey, and it provided fantastic results. Grok also tried to replicate the tattoos on Kohli’s arms, which highlights the potential of Grok in its attention to detail. Note that Grok leaves a watermark in each image.
2. Google Gemini
Gemini by Google is among the leading horses in the AI race. The latest version with Gemini 2.0 Flash now comes with Imagen 3, a powerful large language model developed by Google dedicated to image generation. You can use it for free, but you need to have a Google account.
1. Head over to gemini.google.com, and ensure that you are running on Gemini 2.0 Flash from the top left corner.

2. Describe the image that you want to create using a text prompt.

3. Gemini will generate one image at a time, which you can improvise with follow-up prompts.

4. Download and save the image on your computer.

Although Gemini refused to create an image of a celebrity cricket player, it let us generate the same image with a generic human. The final image looked hyper-realistic, almost as it it was a photograph. The overall image quality and details in Gemini were the best among all the tools that we tested. But due to the restrictions, Gemini is placed #2 on this list.
3. ChatGPT
ChatGPT is synonymous with anything related to AI. It also has DALL-E integration which is a powerful AI image generator. You can use it to create images directly in ChatGPT for free using these simple steps:
1. Open chatgpt.com on your computer, or you can also use the official Android and iOS app.

2. Type your prompt and describe the image that you want to create. For ChatGPT, ensure that the prompt is as detailed as possible.

3. Once the image is generated, download and save it on your device.

In our experience, ChatGPT was not able to generate realistic images, and they instead looked cartoonish. It also refused to create the faces of celebrities for privacy and security reasons. Photos and other media generated using ChatGPT are good enough for school projects, but not professional.
4. Perplexity
Perplexity comes with Flux AI integration which is a dedicated large language model for creating images using AI. However, you will need a Perplexity Pro subscription, and this feature is not accessible in the free version. You also need to carry out some extra steps for media creation, so follow this guide carefully:
1. Open perplexity.ai in any browser.
2. Type a detailed prompt and describe the image.

3. On the right-hand side, click on the Generate Image button, and select Flux.

4. Perplexity will analyse your request and start creating an image. You may have to wait up to a minute, or longer.
5. Save the image on your computer.

While Perplexity gives you the freedom to generate images of celebrities and other famous personalities, the final images have a drawing-like effect and lack a natural touch. It’s better than ChatGPT, but lags behind Gemini and Grok.
As per our testing, Grok is the best AI image generator, followed by Gemini. ChatGPT and Perplexity are good alternatives, but the images don’t have a realistic feel.
